About Us

A lot has changed since Tony and Tegan from FreshCap Mushrooms visited our farm a few years ago, but they wrote an excellent article highlighting our work at What The Fungus.

Our Story

Innovation/Green Business Strategy Our team combines expertise in mycology, arboriculture, marketing, sales, and hospitality. We've collaborated with mushroom experts to develop sustainable, low-cost farming practices and initiated a mushroom culture-trading program for unique species. Our laboratory focuses on research and development, including the use of wood substrates from invasive tree species like Siberian Elm and ‘Tree of Heaven’.

Mission Statement We produce fresh, seasonal indigenous and exotic mushrooms, grown locally and economically using environmentally sound practices. Our goal is to offer exceptional value to customers while making a positive impact through job creation, education programs, and community sponsorships.

Values

  • Be Local: We use urban wood-based substrates sourced locally in the Okanagan and explore other organic by-products for mushroom production.

  • Be Passionate: Driven to exceed commitments and expectations, distinguishing ourselves from other mushroom companies.

  • Be Environmentally Friendly: Our farm minimizes energy consumption and chemical use through innovative greenhouse designs and seasonal growing techniques. We recycle spent substrates for secondary mushroom strains.

  • Be Innovative: We continuously improve by engaging with leading scientists and experts, harvesting local mushrooms, and testing new strains.

  • Be Performance-Driven: Delivering long-term value through profitable growth and partnerships without compromising our community, environment, or principles.

  • Be Community-Oriented: Participating in local events and providing opportunities for job creation and knowledge sharing.
